Linen Wing Chair For Sale

For Sale: $300

I bought this chair from a friend was moving and didn't have room for it in her new home. It sat in her formal living room and was rarely ever used. The scale, condition and quality are excellent, it just needed an update on the fabric. See the last picture for the original upholstery that is still in place under the new fabric.

Fabric: Slubby linen by Jennifer Adams in light caramel and cream. Dimensions:
41H x 24W x 24D

Here's the original upholstery. It's in perfect shape, but is just a little dated.

Lovely Linen Valances

A unfortunate second floor water leak led to a little redecoration in this living room. While most of the furniture is the same, it's been re-arranged and repainted in a fresh and happy yellow. The old window treatments were very serious swags and jabots trimmed with fringe. The owners were ready to ditch them and go with something lighter and more relaxed, while still maintaining the room's traditional southern feeling. She had pinned a number of tailored valances, but didn't want heavy upholstered cornices.  We narrowed things down to an off-white slubby linen fabric with a Fabricut trellis tape in a cream and bronze colorway to pick up on the darker furniture and metals throughout the space. We worked out the design with kraft paper, clipping away and trying it out until we hit the sweet spot. In order to give them as much structure as possible, they are double lined and interlined, with weights at each point.

Here's a close up of the fabric and trim. So pretty.

Embroidered Linen Host Chairs

Here's another piece in the puzzle of this room update by Donna Katz of DK Designs in Salisbury. Originally the host chairs were fully upholstered in a more formal stripe.

Here they are with embroidered linen slipcovers in the cream and blue colorway of the rest of the room..

A peek a boo view of them from the living area...

What you can't see because they just don't photograph well is new box pleated valances over the windows in the navy fabric. Simple and perfect.

Chunky Linen Slipcover on a Traditional Sofa

These homeowners may have been a tad nervous when their designer suggested slipcovers to update a couple of pieces. They wanted to turn down the "stuffy" but I think they feared something super relaxed and sloppy which would not suit their tailored taste.

Here's the before, a beautiful curved front Sherrill sofa in oriental chintz:

Here it is in a chunky linen slipcover with glorious eyelash trim. Fabric and design by Donna Katz of DK Designs in Salisbury. Sewing by me.

This linen is so heavy I felt like I was wrestling an alligator while sewing the skirt on. But what a lovely result. I hope they love it.

And over in the far corner, a plaid taffeta chair got a similar treatment in dark dusky blue with natural piping...
