Restoration Hardware Style on a (Dropcloth) Dime

Isn't this a great chair?

It's from Restoration Hardware and starts at $1500.

When this guy showed up on my doorstep with 2 drop cloths, I immediately knew what he really wanted to be.

There are as many different kinds of drop cloth as there are stores that sell them. I don't have a preference but always request no lighter than a 10 oz weight. This one has a creamy color and fairly uniform texture. I washed and dried it on the hottest cycles but it still has a looser weave that shredded pretty badly. It did however make one of the prettiest drop cloth slipcovers that I've done. I will recommend gentle care.

Ticking

My customer picked up a great pair of Vanguard club chairs at a thrift store. She recently bought a cozy little cottage and wanted a comfy and casual look for her furniture. She chose a cotton ticking stripe in black & cream for the chairs and an ottoman. I pre-washed the fabric so she can wash the slipcovers if she needs to.

I just love ticking. These chairs look inviting yet still polished, in a very casual sort of way. And they will play nicely with just about any other pieces, from fancy to rustic, from leather to floral to plaid or solids. Great choice Martha!
